Nightlife in Surrey

University of Surrey students have a variety of nightclubs, bars and a cinema within walking distance of the campus. There’s national chain bars and independent pubs, plus clubs like Harpers, Flares and Dusk. Live music can also be found, including the best of local talent, indie and alternative club music.


Pubs

You’ll find a mix of modern bars and traditional pubs in Guildford. The Kings Head serves good food with fine ales; The Stoke Pub and Pizzeria runs regular deals on food and cocktails, plus poker nights. Ye Olde Ship Inn, next to the College of Law, is the oldest pub in Guildford. The Angel, on the High Street has a selection of locally brewed ales. The White Hart and The Ship Inn are traditional English pubs serving good quality local ales.


Bars / music venues

Bar Mambo and Bar Med are popular bars, showing lots of sport. Rodborough Buildings Bridge is a huge bar on two floors (pints cost between £2 and £3.) The Tickled Ivory is a piano bar offering live music all week.

Nearer the high street, is Joe Clarks Mediterranean café bar, The Tudor Lounge, The Three Pigeons with good value food and drink, Fahrenheit 55 tapas bar with live bands playing from time to time and open until 2am most nights. Five & Lime in the centre of Guildford has a selection of tap & bottled beers, the King’s Head has a very chic rooftop terrace; Pews Bar has a large outdoor German style beer garden and bar.

The Robin Hood is a ‘proper’ pub, with live music Friday and Saturday evenings and acoustic Sunday night entertainment. The Star Inn is quite a lively pub with a young crowd and good live local bands on some nights. The Guildford Tup has a very good beer garden with BBQ and frequent bands. Ha Ha Bar and Canteen, close to the bus station and taxi rank, opens till 1pm Friday and Saturday nights.


Clubs

Nightclubs include The Casino (formerly Harpers)- Guildford’s main event nightclub. Dusk (a smaller club than Harper’s, attracting a younger crowd.) The Legion is spread out over 3 floors, with 2 bars and a dance floor. Flares is a 70s/80s themed bar. Live music venues include The Boileroom and Wooden Bridge Pub.
