Nightlife at Surrey Uni

On campus at the University of Surrey, there are five bars, three food outlets and a nightclub on campus. Rubix, the Students’ Union’s 1600 capacity venue, stages gigs that range from trance, dance and funk, to indie, rock and metal.

Chancellors

The main Union eatery and pre-club bar and restaurant, Chancellors is open from 8.30am during the week and 10am at the weekends. It seats up to 200 students every day, with an extra 120 students on the modern patio. The venue is used for all types of events ranging from comedy and quiz nights to cocktail lounge and open mic evenings.

Wates House

Wates House is a postgraduate and staff area with a traditional pub atmosphere. Boasting a bar, canteen and meeting rooms, it’s a good social space. In addition, within Wates House is the Orchard Lounge for meetings, social events and cybercafe facilities.

HRB

The Helyn Rose Bar has a capacity of 180 people and is the Chinese restaurant on campus. Young’s Kitchen can be found in the HRB (on the bottom floor of the Students’ Union building) and serves only freshly cooked traditional food. The bar offers less mainstream music events (drum’n'bass and dubstep for example) and has coverage of all major sports events.

Roots

Open until 1am on Wednesdays and Fridays, Roots is a cafe bar run by the university with sofas, pool tables and music.

Rubix nightclub

Rubix is the Student Union’s 1600-capacity nightclub, with a good sound and light set up. There’s a menu of entertainment, changing each night of the week, that includes popular clubbing events, comedy acts, pub quizzes and live music. Several music societies stage gigs from trance, dance, funk, rock and metal to drum and bass and more. Entry to Rubix costs between £3 and £10 for themed nights.
