Start using Civicboom

As a student, you can use Civicboom in a variety of ways. Connect with other students, build your own online portfolio, share news, views and ideas direct from your university campus, and collaborate on projects.

Get connected

As a member of the Gradvine hub, you’ll be connected not only to students at universities across the country – but to other organisations too. From publishers and media companies, to potential employers, communities and individual users.

You can set up your own hub for a society or sports team, your favourite music genre, to share study notes and research – anything you like. Upload videos, text, images and audio for other Civicboom users to follow, respond to, comment on and boom to their own hubs for sharing.

How do you use it?

When you sign up to Civicboom (use your facebook account, it’s easy) you can start creating content straight away. You can search content using keywords for topics that interest you, and comment on them. You can also search for other users to follow.

The Civicboom app for your mobile makes it even easier. Scan the barcode into your phone and start creating your content on the move.

Can’t picture it?

Here’s some examples of how you might use Civicboom, to get you started:

You’re on campus, there’s a sit-in protest underway about tuition fees. It’s national news – but you’re right there, at the scene. Pull out your mobile, make your own video news report, upload it, publish it – be the news.

You’re into a certain type of music, say it’s trance. It’s hard to just bump into other students who love it too. So you set up a hub, people at your campus start following your posts, and you find enough students to put on your own event.

You play hockey. You really want to hook up with other university teams – maybe start a inter-county varsity league (great excuse for a mini bus outing.) Start a hub for Surrey Hockey, get all the players to follow it. Then connect with teams at other unis.

You’re an art or drama student, and need a portfolio for when you graduate. Capture your coursework and final project as you create it, and you’ve got a ready-made CV to share with potential employers.

Clearer now?

You only get alerts for the hubs you follow, so you’re not inundated every time something new is uploaded. And you can manage your settings just like you would on facebook – choosing the level of interactivity you want.
